Jeremy Sisto + Broadway = Love

Ooooh look what just popped into my inbox. I will be making some time for this.

The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway: October 22, 2007

Yes, folks, it's that time of year. We're gearing up for another star-studded extravaganza, in the lovely American Airlines Theater. This time out, we'll welcome some first-timers to the fold, including Edie Falco, Jeremy Sisto and Kerry Washington. They'll be joining a crack squad of alumni (see below) to create a staggeringly overqualified talent pool. Tickets are available at www.smarttix.com - get 'em now (last year we sold out a month in advance...)!!

Blast from the Past

Back in 'the day' when I was going to concerts every single weekend (and every other weekday) my very favorite band was an unsigned regional group of amazing guys that called themselves Still Rain.

A singer - Donnie Hamby - that even though he was a skinny little dude had the biggest and best voice that I still have ever heard. He went on to play in doubleDrive with one of the guitar players.

One of the guitarist - Troy Mclawhorn - He also went on to play in doubleDrive and then Dark New Day.

Clint Lowery - The 2nd guitarist and brother to Corey. Played in Sevendust and Dark New Day.

Corey Lowery - the badass bass player - seriously, just watch him - went to Stuck Mojo, Stereo Mud and also Dark New Day.

and Bevan Davies - drummer extraordinaire played with Comes with the Fall and Danzig.

These are still all very talented guys and their later bands were good too, but nothing as tight as Still Rain. The harmonies most bands today would kill for, with the bombastic in your face rock that just blew away every body who saw them play. Sometimes I really do miss the 'old days'.

But, my friends, that is where the technological wonder of youtube comes in. It is by far the best invention of the last 5 years because now I can not only blather on about how great a band Still Rain was, I can also say - watch and see for yourself.

Downtown Live

In Raleigh we have this event called Downtown Live, where every couple of weeks in a park downtown - where else? - there's basically a huge block party with food and drinks and beer - it is sponsored by Bud Lite - and there are bands all afternoon and evening for free. The unusual thing is the bands. They're not necessarily long past their expiration date, but definitely not in the spotlight anymore. Last summer included Candlebox, Violent Femmes and Urge Overkill. All bands you want to see... you know you do.

This summer has been good so far, Soul Asylum, Night Ranger and The Romantics. Sadly, I missed all those because clumsy EC was on crutches. Ah, well. I will get to see Warrant tomorrow night though. I will be in hair-band-hard-rock heaven. Pun intended. :)
